A Quick Update
Posted by Administrator in Uncategorized on 07 31st, 2009| | 1 Comment »

I just wanted to stop by to let everybody know I am still alive. I have just been super busy with so many things and when I haven’t been busy I just get all lazy then don’t want to write anything.

The recent Firefox update eliminated my Entrecard Plug-in so I am having a hell of a time dropping on my favorites. Forgive that, I will soon figure out a way to drop on everyone with ease.

Anyway, there you go. Hopefully there will be some worthy content coming soon. Until then thanks for visiting!

Boss ME-70: A Review
Posted by Administrator in Music on 07 24th, 2009| | 1 Comment »

Ok, so I got the ME-70 a couple of weeks ago. I really didn’t mention it here because I wanted to try it out for a little while before saying anything. So far I really like this unit. Here is a list of things I like and dislike.

* It has a metal chassis, I like that, but the actual pedals (minus the whammy/volume) are made of plastic. I hope they last.

*I enjoy the fact it has a built in tuner, only it doesn’t impress me because it gets all sensitive and I never get that feeling I am perfectly in tune. But it gets the job done.

*I like the fact that it has that built in whammy/volume pedal, that will also do +1 octave and -1 octave and also control mod and delay rates. Sadly you can only use one of these functions at a time. Also it just a hair to easy to flip between volume and whammy mode and have accidently lowered my volume mid solo thinking I am in whammy.

*The delays are great! Sadly though if you use the phrase looper, you really cant use the delay pedal in manual mode. I have not tried it in preset mode though it should work.

*I love the fact that it has knobs and not a ton of menus to scroll through like some other multi effects units. It makes it so much simpler to just dial in your tone. I wish it had something to protect the knobs though, like the Line 6 Pod XT Live uses, I can see a knob getting broken in a vicious stomp.

*The preamp selections are great, though I mainly use the clean setting. The Mesa setting sounds really good to me as well. That is saying alot considering that I am using a twin reverb as my amp, not known for holding certain types of overdrives well.

*The reverb sounds good, but I don’t like how it adds it to all your sound. For example, If I record something using the phrase looper, and I recorded it clean (no reverb), then I wanted to play a nice lead on top of the recording with some reverb, the moment I turn the reverb on, all the sound has reverb including the looped phrase.

*The output volume control helps me alot, the Twin Reverb is a LOUD amp even at volume level 2, so I can turn this unit way down and make the sound levels of the amp a bit more controllable for late night jamming, and if worse comes to worse, it does have a headphone out jack.

*Will take six AA batteries, but I already had a 1spot power adapter that works with it, sad that for the price they don’t throw in a free power adapter.

I could go on and on, but this a blog, not a paid review site. Overall I think the unit is really good. It retails at Guitar Center for $299 and I used a 10% discount coupon they sent me so I got it a bit cheaper. Only time will tell if it’s worth the money.

Meet Odin Blaze!
Posted by Administrator in Music on 07 20th, 2009| | 3 Comments »

Yeah so last time I posted I told you my new guitar needed a name. Now I didn’t get a lot of responses, mainly because no one really reads this blog, but I got quality responses, so it’s quality over quantity winning again.

My homie “V” over at Metallman’s Reverie liked something brutal like Odin and my far far away homie Daniel liked Blaze. Now alone, neither of those names really fit, but together, yeah, now that’s what I like. So I present to you my new stick of power’s name, Odin Blaze. Sick, right?

So here is a little clip, clocking in at a whole 33 seconds of Odin Blaze in action. Now I warn you, this music I am playing can be considered blasphemy by hardcore Telecaster owners, but easy, I am just warming my fingers up. The vid was shot in passing, so it picks up and ends with no particular structure. Oh well, enjoy it as much as you can.

How Sweet It Is- Help Me Find A Name
Posted by Administrator in Music on 07 15th, 2009| | 3 Comments »

How sweet it is to hold my new Fender Standard Telecaster in my hands. I almost didn’t buy this brand new Sunburst beauty. I almost traded for a Alvarez telecaster copy. And I would have enjoyed it just as much considering how it was almost the twin to my Stratocaster. In the end though I really enjoyed talking to the owner of the Alvarez and hope that he will stay in touch with me, he seemed rather pleasant.

Then there was the 95 Sunburst Fender Telecaster in the nearby city of Athens. I had that guy talked down to 270 dollars. But just when I thought it would be a done deal, he quit communicating with me. I will file that one under Craigslist Flunk Outs. You always get a few when dealing with craigslist.

Then there was the Telecaster in South Carolina. That guy was down to $280. Firstly it was red, which doesn’t bother me much, but I just love Sunburst and Black telecasters. Then, oddly enough, someone scratched off the Made In Mexico part of the logo. Why? I have no idea. Mexican telecasters are still great quality, sure the American model has more higher end components installed but they also have a higher price tag installed as well. I’m not ready to sell a kidney to own a guitar, so Mexican is plenty of quality for me, and I would not own a guitar that had been shamed out of it’s origin. Funny me I guess.

So in the end, I woke up, cleaned Damien well, uninstalled his strap locks, put the original strap buttons back on and headed to my local music store. I traded Damien and he will be sorely missed, and should anyone ever question the quality of a Schecter Damien-6 I will tell them that it is a great guitar. I just really wanted the telecaster. Eventually I am sure I will come across another metal guitar.

So, now to the fun part. As you know, my Mexican Stratocaster has been given the name Mexi by me. But this Sunburst Telecaster has no name. I am ready to take suggestions, so let’s hear them. We will see who chose the best name in the next post.

Mexi Gets A Makeover
Posted by Administrator in Music on 07 10th, 2009| | 9 Comments »

It’s been a little bit since I got my Strat, Mexi. She’s such a sweet sweet girl, not all harsh and brutal like Damien. (Love him too.) I call her Mexi because she was assembled in Mexico and the name bodes well with me. Anyway, when I got her she was just plain Jane. White pickguard on black guitar and I thought to myself that I would have to customize her, sooo, without further delay:

Old look:

New look:

So what do you think? Do you like her?
